If you’ve toured around The Radiant Look a bit, you’ve probably noticed the main mission of TRL is to focus more on our inner beauty rather than our outer. But how exactly can we achieve that beauty that originates and radiates from the inside? The beauty industry talks so much about steps to get the clearest, softest face and the process to a toned bod, but what about our inner appearance? What does that even look like?

Here are 19 practical steps to achieve inner beauty. Practical, yes, but most are harder said than done. But I want to point out the first step is #1 for a reason. It’s only by God’s grace and strength that we can have this true beauty. When we make God the center of our lives.

  1. Make God the center of your life

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” – Matthew 10:38-39

2. Initiate forgiveness

“Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.” – Ephesians 4:32

3. Respect others

“Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” – Philippians 2:3,4

4. Submit to authority

“Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.” – Hebrews 13:17

5. Get rid of bitterness

“See to it that no one fails to obtain the grace of God; that no “root of bitterness” springs up and causes trouble, and by it many become defiled…” – Hebrews 12:15

6. Value family relationships

“Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.” – Exodus 20:12

7. Speak words of love to others

“Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.” – Ephesians 4:29

8. Give cheerfully

“Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” – 2 Corinthians 9:7

9. Smile more

“A glad heart makes a cheerful face, but by sorrow of heart the spirit is crushed.” – Proverbs 15:13

10. Eat right

“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” – 1 Corinthians 6:19,20

11. Rest

“And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done.” – Genesis 2:2

12. Always go to God in prayer

“Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.” – Jeremiah 33:3

13. Read God’s Word daily

“Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.” – Psalm 119:8

14. Obey God’s commandments

“For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome.” – 1 John 5:3

15. Fast

“When I wept and humbled my soul with fasting, it became my reproach.” – Psalm 69:10

16. Laugh

“Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then they said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.” – Psalm 126:2

17. Have compassion and care

“Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.” – Colossians 3:12,13

18. Count your blessings

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” – James 1:17

19. Serve others

“For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” – Galatians 5:13,14
